Your private culture and history tour in Brussels is a journey back in time to the days of World War II. One of the most significant operations of the war occurred in this area - Operation Market Garden. On your guided tour through historical Brussels you will learn the meaning of the term "A Bridge Too Far," referring to the failed attempt of Allied Forces to capture bridges between Belgium and Germany. This stretch of road has also been called Hells Highway, because of the devastation brought to pass during these battles.
Our historical tour in Brussels will take us to visit several memorials dedicated to the Liberators of World War II, such as the Infantry Memorial of Brussels, or the National Monument to the Jewish Martyrs and the Canadian Memorial. Other highly interesting stops along our historical tour of Brussels will include a visit to the US Cemetery as well as the Airborne Museum. We will visit the headquarters of Major General Robert Elliot Urquhart, the commander of the 101st Airborne Division during Operation Market Garden.
We'll see the National Liberation Museum in Nijmegen, and also the Royal Army and Military History Museum. Visitors to the Royal Museum are fascinated by the exquisitely crafted figures in the wax museum and its huge collection of various military uniforms. Guests of my private tour in Brussels are also intrigued by the hundreds of restored military tanks and trucks, and the anti-aircraft guns and artillery.
By the end of this very interesting cultural and history tour of Brussels you will have found a greater appreciation of our freedom, and a respect for the incredible battles fought to preserve democracy and human rights.
